Our History

Sandy’s Ukrainian Kitchen was founded in 1999 by Sandy Kosolowsky as a small family business dedicated to sharing the rich flavors of traditional Ukrainian cuisine with the Nanaimo community. Inspired by generations of family recipes, Sandy’s passion for authentic, handmade dishes quickly turned the restaurant into a beloved local spot for those seeking a taste of home-cooked Ukrainian food.

At the heart of our menu are handmade perogies, crafted with time-honored techniques passed down through the years. From hearty cabbage rolls to warm, comforting borscht, every dish reflects the authentic flavors and traditions of Ukraine. Our commitment to quality and tradition ensures that every meal is prepared with care, just like it would be in a Ukrainian family kitchen.

Beyond serving great food, we are proud to have strong ties to the Ukrainian community in Nanaimo. Over the years, we have actively participated in local events, festivals, and charity work, bringing people together through food and culture. Our restaurant is not just a place to eat—it’s a space where traditions are celebrated and new memories are made.

Today, Sandy’s Ukrainian Kitchen continues to grow. Alongside our restaurant and Ukrainian store in Nanaimo, we now offer online ordering and catering services, making it easier than ever for customers to enjoy our delicious, homemade meals. Whether you’re looking for a comforting plate of perogies or planning a special event, we are here to bring the warmth and flavors of Ukraine to your table.
